VA Corporation officially jumps into the virtual production business

VA Corporation announced that it started the Virtual Production (VP) platform business, a next-generation realistic content creation system, with Asia's largest virtual studio.

VA Corporation provides one-stop services from planning to production of various immersive contents such as movies, dramas, advertisements, real-time performances, and games. The company plans to introduce a new level of virtual production platform that greatly exceeds the existing virtual production environment with Asia's largest LED wall-based virtual studio, virtual production technology and know-how utilizing Korea's top-notch VFX (visual special effects), and a library of original content IP (intellectual property). In particular, by acquiring Mofac, a visual special effects (VFX) company with one of the longest histories in Korea, as a subsidiary, VA Corporation has secured production know-how and advanced technology based on virtual production that can control a large number of software and hardware required for realistic content planning and production. Mofac is the only company in Korea that has participated in the planning and production of various immersive contents such as movies, dramas, advertisements, and XR (extended reality) performances through active research and development (R&D) of virtual production since 2017.

VA Corporation will first unveil Asia's largest virtual studios 'VA STUDIO HANAM 1, 2, and 3' located in Hanam in June, followed by general studios 'VA STUDIO HANAM 4 and 5', art centers, and related facilities in the second half of the year. By early next year, VA Corporation plans to build Asia's largest virtual studio infrastructure with a total area of about 29,000 square meters in the suburbs of Seoul, including Hanam, to provide a next-level virtual content creation environment.

HANAM STUDIO, which will debut in June, is located in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do, with a total area of 11,265㎡ (3,408 pyeong), and has three virtual studios equipped with a large LED stage, in-camera VFX equipment, and an XR operating system. The Volume studio (19m diameter, 8m height, 12m wing), which is the largest in Korea with LED panels on the walls and top, is optimized for film and drama production and can produce more natural light than artificial light, creating a realistic production that feels like being on location. XR studios specializing in media commerce and live concert production will also be built.

Through strategic collaboration and investment with entertainment and content companies such as webtoons, dramas, movies, games, and OTT (online video services), VA Corporation plans to develop excellent IP and strengthen its ability to create immersive content. Also, he said, "At a time when digital content is growing, we will provide global-level immersive content production services based on the largest virtual production infrastructure in Korea," said an official from VA Corporation. "We will position ourselves as the largest virtual production platform in Korea through our virtual studio with the largest infrastructure in Asia, optimal technology, and content IP competitiveness."
