VA Corporation opens Asia’s largest virtual studio

VA Corporation announced to open VA STUDIO HANAM, the largest virtual studio in Asia.

VA STUDIO HANAM (1157 Mangwol-dong, Hanam-si) is the largest virtual studio in Asia, totaling 11,265 square meters with the largest LED wall in Korea. It has a total of three virtual studios specialized in planning and producing various metaverse contents such as movies, dramas, advertisements, XR performances, and live commerce, enabling customized production by scale. In addition to its state-of-the-art facilities, it is also highly accessible, being located within an hour of Seoul.

The virtual studios are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities optimized for immersive content production, including a large LED stage, in-camera VFX equipment, and an XR operating system, and are highly efficient as the studio can be selected according to the scale of production. The 'XR Studio' has a total area of 405㎡ and is equipped with two sets of LED walls (4.9m wide and 3.34m high) optimized for advertising and live commerce. The 'Medium Volume Studio' has a total floor area of 643㎡ and is equipped with a system suitable for producing various contents such as short films, dramas, and XR performances. The 'Large Volume Studio' has a floor area of 1,088㎡ and is the largest virtual studio in Asia with the largest oval LED wall in Korea (53.5m wide, 8m high, 19m diameter, 12m wings) and a 360-degree LED studio that can be opened and closed. Optimized for film and drama production, the studio's walls and top are surrounded by LED panels that provide a more natural light than lighting on the subject, creating a realistic production that feels like being in the scene.

Based on 'VA Studio Hanam', VA Corporation will strengthen its next-generation realistic content production infrastructure. In the second half of the year, it will open additional general studios, art centers, and facilities in Hanam, and by next year, it plans to build a virtual production 'multi-studio' with a total area of about 29,000 pyeong in the suburbs of Seoul, including Hanam.

An official from VA Corporation said, "Through the opening of the virtual studio, we have secured our own competitiveness to provide one-stop services from planning to production of various realistic contents." "By next year, we will build a virtual production infrastructure of about 29,000 pyeong in the suburbs of Seoul and establish ourselves as a leading virtual production platform company in Korea based on our virtual production technology and IP competitiveness."

The 'Virtual Production Studio' is a state-of-the-art studio that projects a 3D space rendered in real time on an LED wall, and then shoots actors and backgrounds simultaneously, allowing users to see the entire process of creating immersive content in real time using the LED wall. Virtual production, which is gaining prominence along with the growth of the metaverse industry, is a technology that encompasses the planning and production of realistic content in a virtual environment and real-time visual effects technology, and is characterized by efficiently reducing time and costs while improving the quality of content. Disney+ original content 'The Mandalorian' produced by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a global visual effects company, is a representative work completed using virtual production.
