VA Corporation Holds Virtual Production Contest in Collaboration with Korea National University of Arts

VA Corporation announced on the 18th that it is holding the 1st Virtual Production Competition until December 27th, as part of a school-industry support program with the Korea National University of Arts' Art and Technology Lab (hereafter KNUA AT Lab).

VA Corporation hosted the 1st VA Virtual Film Festival to expand the base of virtual production, and in August, it signed a business agreement with KNUA AT Lab and has been operating a curriculum for nurturing talent necessary for virtual production. In the initially established curriculum, experts in the field of virtual production from VA Corporation and directors who have conducted actual shootings offered special lectures and practical training that covered the definition and workflow of virtual production, characteristics of virtual studios, virtual previsualization using motion capture, and the background asset production process for filming, all of which could enhance understanding of the actual production process by dealing with both fundamentals and on-site practical skills.

The purpose of this competition is to create works to be submitted to domestic and international film festivals and competitions based on such curriculum and to accumulate field experience in virtual production, the next generation film production technology. It is open to all undergraduate or graduate students and alumni of KNUA without restrictions on theme, length, or genre, and the selected team will be provided with various benefits such as production cost support, filming support in a virtual studio, production support for Unreal Engine-based background assets, and basic/advanced workshops on virtual production.

Applicants wishing to participate can apply by submitting relevant documents such as a synopsis and script, a production plan detailing the virtual production portion (free format), and a production budget statement online through the KNUA website. The application period is until Wednesday, December 27th, with a first round of document review and a second round of face-to-face review to follow.

An official from VA Corporation said, "We hope to provide a great opportunity for students with creativity and potential in the field of virtual production through this competition in collaboration with the Korea National University of Arts," and "We look forward to rich film content with various genres and ideas, and we want to support the passion and efforts of the students."

Meanwhile, VA Corporation is a "Creative Entertainment Group" composed of the best experts in each field such as virtual production, VFX, virtual humans, planning and production of original film/drama content, artist management, and metaverse, and is expanding its content capabilities by presenting Asia's largest LED wall-based virtual studio Hanam and content such as XR live broadcasting, films, dramas, commercials, music videos, conferences, and virtual humans based on virtual production technology. <End>
